The Complete Guide to Vehicle Wraps: Everything You Need to Know

Apex TeamFebruary 10, 2026

Vehicle wraps have exploded in popularity over the past several years, and for good reason. Whether you want to change your car's color, promote your business, or create a one-of-a-kind design, a wrap offers a flexible, reversible, and often more affordable alternative to paint.

A vehicle wrap involves covering your car's exterior in large sheets of vinyl film. The film is carefully applied by hand, stretched and heated to conform to every curve, contour, and recess of your vehicle's body. When done properly, the result is seamless and stunning.

There are several types of wraps to choose from. Color change wraps transform your vehicle's entire appearance with a new color — gloss, matte, satin, or even chrome and color-shifting finishes. Partial wraps cover specific panels like the hood, roof, or mirrors for a custom accent look. Commercial wraps use printed graphics to turn your vehicle into a mobile billboard. Custom design wraps combine printed elements with solid-color vinyl for a truly unique look.

One of the biggest advantages of wrapping versus painting is reversibility. When you're ready for a change, the wrap can be professionally removed, revealing the original paint underneath in pristine condition. This makes wraps particularly popular for leased vehicles, as they protect the paint and can be removed before lease return.

Quality matters enormously with vehicle wraps. We use only premium cast vinyl from brands like 3M and Avery Dennison. Cast vinyl is thinner, more conformable, and more durable than cheaper calendered vinyl. It resists shrinking, cracking, and fading far better than budget alternatives.

The installation environment matters too. Our temperature-controlled shop ensures the vinyl adheres properly and conforms cleanly to your vehicle's surfaces. Dust, humidity, and temperature fluctuations can all affect the quality of a wrap installation.

Caring for a wrapped vehicle is straightforward. Hand wash with a mild soap, avoid automatic car washes with brushes, and keep the vehicle out of prolonged sun exposure when possible. We also offer ceramic coating for wrapped vehicles, which adds an extra layer of protection and makes maintenance even easier.

At Apex Performance, our wrap specialists have years of experience with color changes, commercial wraps, and custom designs. We handle every project from design consultation through installation and aftercare. Contact us to discuss your vision.
